This approach encourages your mind to focus on the journey rather than just the destination, and it can allow deeper and more effective problem-solving.
We all have goals, dreams, and aspirations—whether it’s landing your dream job, starting a successful business, or creating positive change in your life. But what exactly needs to take place before these things can come to fruition? In life, things don’t always happen immediately, and the journey to success is often a process of preparation, hard work, and timing. I wanted to explore this question of what needs to happen before certain milestones in life can be reached, and how understanding this can help you navigate your own path to success.
Let me give you an example of what this questions can do- What has to happen in order for me to have the body I want?
Gaining Clarity on what the goal is would be the first step so questions such as
What does my ideal body look and feel like? (Toned, muscular, lean, energetic?) What is my current body vs. my goal?
What timeline is realistic for achieving this?
Your mind would then start to break down the goals into actionable things to do such as – do I need to change my diet in any way ? What exercises would work best to help me achieve the goal. Do I need to look at other elements in my life such as sleep and rest time ?
Your brain shifts from “Why can’t I?” to “What’s stopping me?”, unhealthy eating habits, lack of motivation, time and life limitations ?
You now have a little more clarity on what you want, why you haven’t got it and what needs to change to achieve the goal therefore your brain can start creating a plan to achieve your ideal body: these could be to set realistic fitness & nutrition goals , Create a realistic workout plan, Track progress through photos or measurements.
Replace the words of “This is too hard,” to
“What small habit can I change today?”
“Who can help me to achieve this, maybe make me accountable”
“How can I make fitness enjoyable?”
Your brain moves from thinking to doing:
Meal prepping healthy foods, Scheduling workouts into your daily routine, finding ways to reduce your stress and get rest. Measuring your progress & celebrating small wins
By asking the right question, you go from wishing to achieving.
Think of something you’ve been wanting to achieve. Over the next 7 days, ask yourself:
“What has to happen before ________ can happen?”
At first, it may feel unfamiliar, but with practice, your brain will start providing the answers you need.
This simple yet powerful question activates your prefrontal cortex, shifting your focus from obstacles to solutions. As clarity replaces confusion, you’ll naturally begin taking steps forward.
I’d love to hear about your experience—what insights do you gain? What changes do you notice? Let me know!
